For the week of May 12th - May 19th
Diluted - Affirm OR Transform
Scripture This Week:

Romans 12:2

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will.

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 Therefore, if anything is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!

Ephesians 4:22-24

22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Main Thought This Week:

We live at a time where affirmation and the desire to be affirmed are both at a peak as far as the human desire for it, and at a peak for the availability of it. The problem is, affirmation does not enable people to break free from their sins and properly pursue God. The Christian life should not be marked by affirmation of one’s present state, but how they are becoming more like Christ. When we accept this reality and believe God to change our hearts, we are transformed and become a new creation.

Discussion Questions:
1. What are some of the problems of affirming anyone and everyone exactly how they currently are?
2. Why do you suppose it is so difficult to give up our current ways of life to embrace the transformation Christ wants to do in our hearts?
3. Once we believe that Christ is supposed to transform our hearts, Pastor Chris explained it can look in two different ways: (1) the first leans so heavily on God’s grace and mercy that there is not a sincere effort to become more like Christ and (2) the other can result in works trying to prove you are progressing towards being more Christ-like. Where do you see yourself in this and where you would like to be?
4. What are some ways you are looking forward to God continuing to transform you go throughout life? Pray for and encourage each other in these things.
