Life Group Guide
For the week of April 29-May 5
Sermon Series: Strong
Sermon: Forerunners and Memorial Stones
Impact Team Focus: Setup/Teardown
Main Thought for the Week:
In Joshua, the priests enter the Jordan first, serving as forerunners for the Israelites to cross on dry ground. The waters were still flowing when they were called to step in, and they had to trust that God would stop the waters. A forerunner is a person or thing that precedes the coming or development of someone or something else. Grace City is a family of forerunners, invited by God to lead the way in our communities, families, and workplaces.
We also see the priests set up memorial stones. These stones serve to testify to God’s faithfulness, to remind the Israelites and all of the people of the world of how He worked among them. This remembrance also inherently called them to action. As we remember God’s work in our lives, it should affect our faith and obedience going forward.
Joshua 3:17 (NIV)
“The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.”
Joshua 4:5b-7 (NIV)
“Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”

- What is there in your life that serves as a “memorial stone” to God’s faithfulness?
- Where is God calling you to go, as a next step in your journey of faith?
Pray for individual requests in the group, pray for people being reached out to by group members by name, and pray for the growth and health of Grace City.
