For the week of March 31 - April 6th

Blueprints - New Birth = New Life

Scripture This Week:

Titus 3:1-8 (ESV)

1 Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

Main Thought This Week:

This week’s passage focuses on how our regeneration by the work of the Holy Spirit empowers us to do good works that make God known in our city. Paul gives readers a list of commands to follow that are in direct opposition to the ways they lived before they were saved. Now that we have been reborn we get to live a new life in the city that shows people the loving kindness of God.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What stood out to you from this week’s message?
  2. Pastor Chris said, “Good works never save, but good works flow from those who are saved,” do you find yourself pursuing good works to earn favor from God or is it out of the love you have received from Him?
  3. Verses 4-7 help us understand that the good works we have been called to do are because of the work that God has done to free us from our sins, renew us, and now put us on mission to impact the world around us. Do you see yourself learning what it means to be freed, what renewal looks like in your life, or where God has called you to impact in the world around you?
  4. Verse 8 leaves us with the command to do good works that are excellent and profitable, what are some practical ways you can do good works to glorify God in your life this week?
