Our Beliefs

The Recognized Tension of Statements

Below you will find several “statement” documents in reference to Grace City Church of Eugene’s beliefs regarding critical theological and social issues. We recognize that statements like these are both necessary and insufficient.

They are necessary in the sense that clarity and transparency ought to be markers of the Church. Many churches are ambiguous and unclear regarding their beliefs, which leads many to feel bait-and-switched when a value or a belief is inevitably shared. For the sake of saints and seekers, we desire to be upfront and honest about our theological and social distinctions as a community.

Statements are insufficient in the sense that they can shield our authentic heart posture, hinder nuance, and keep people apart because of the divisive nature and implications of language. We have done our best to show our heart and give allowance for nuance and acceptable diversity of opinion so that they would not be a stumbling block to anyone in or considering our community.

If you would like furthering unpacking or to have a conversation with someone from our pastoral team, please email hello@gracecityeugene.com to schedule a meeting.
