What is the Gospel?

At Grace City Eugene, we believe the gospel — the good news — changes everything. It’s not just a message we hear; it’s a reality we can experience.

The gospel is the good news that God became man in Jesus Christ. He lived the life we should have lived: perfectly obedient, loving, and holy. He died the death we should have died, taking the judgment our sins deserve. Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving He is the Son of God and offering salvation to all who repent and believe in Him.

This is the good news that gives us real hope.

God Made Us For Relationship

From the beginning, we were created to know God, to walk with Him, and to live under His good and loving rule. We were made for life, wholeness, and peace in relationship with Him and with one another.

Sin Separated Us from God

But each of us has turned away from God. Sin isn’t just doing bad things; it’s rejecting God's authority and choosing to live on our own terms. The result is brokenness: in ourselves, in our relationships, and in the world around us. Sin separates us from the life we were made for, leading to spiritual death.

Jesus Came to Rescue Us

God didn’t leave us lost. In His great love, He came after us. Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, entered human history to live the life we couldn’t live and die the death we deserved. On the cross, He took our place, bearing our guilt and shame. Through His resurrection, He conquered sin and death once for all, opening the way back to life with God.

Salvation Is a Gift, Not an Achievement

We don’t earn our way back to God through good works, religion, or moral effort. Salvation is a free gift, offered to us because of what Jesus has done. When we repent (turn away from our sin and self-rule) and believe in Him (trust in His work and His leadership), we are forgiven, made new, and restored into relationship with God.

The Gospel Changes Everything

When you believe the gospel, you don’t just secure heaven someday — you step into new life today:

You are adopted into God's family - loved, accepted, and called His child.
You are empowered to live differently - no longer enslaved to sin, but set free by grace.
You are sent into the world with a purpose - to extend God’s kingdom of love, justice, and truth wherever you go.
